Steven M. Rales
Steven M. Rales is an American businessman and film producer, known for co-founding two major industrial companies and for his work with filmmaker Wes Anderson. Born in 1951, he co-founded the industrial conglomerate Danaher Corporation with his brother, Mitchell Rales, in 1984, and has served as its chairman ever since. Danaher has grown into a global leader in life sciences and diagnostics through a strategy of strategic acquisitions and a focus on operational excellence, guided by the "Danaher Business System" (DBS). The brothers also co-founded Colfax Corporation in 1995, an industrial pumps manufacturer that later evolved into a medical technology company.In 2006, Rales ventured into the film industry, founding the production company Indian Paintbrush. The company has produced many of Wes Anderson's films, including Moonrise Kingdom, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Isle of Dogs, and The French Dispatch. Rales has received several Academy Award nominations for his work as a producer, and won the Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film for The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar (2023). In addition to his business and film endeavors, Rales is a partial owner of the NBA's Indiana Pacers and, in 2024, acquired the media distribution companies Janus Films and The Criterion Collection.
