Suzy Nakamura (born December 2, 1968, in Chicago, Illinois) is an accomplished American actress and improvisational comedian whose career has spanned stage, television, and film since the mid-1990s. A proud alumna of Columbia College Chicago and The Second City (she was the first Asian-American woman with the troupe and co-founded its Detroit division), Nakamura honed her comedic skills touring and performing sketch shows. Transitioning to screen, she secured recurring guest roles on acclaimed series like The West Wing, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Modern Family, and How I Met Your Mother before becoming a series regular—most notably as Allison Park on ABC’s Dr. Ken and Iris Kimura on HBO’s Avenue 5. Her versatility extends into voice acting, with projects including Inside Job, Exploding Kittens, and Luck in which she lent her voice as the social worker. Nakamura has appeared in over 100 television episodes and numerous films—ranging from indie favorites like the Venice Film Festival title Strawberry Fields to mainstream comedies such as Must Love Dogs, The 40‑Year‑Old Virgin, and Horrible Bosses 2. A staple of family-friendly and adult animation, she frequently lends her voice to characters in Bob’s Burgers, Dead to Me, The Neighborhood, and Tacoma FD. Off screen, she balances her dynamic career with community work—including volunteering with Food on Foot in Los Angeles—and continues to perform improv, demonstrating her ongoing commitment to comedy and social engagement.
