Swanand Kirkire, born on April 29, 1972, is a highly versatile and acclaimed Indian lyricist, playback singer, writer, assistant director, and actor. After graduating from the National School of Drama, he began his career in the early 2000s and quickly made a name for himself in the film industry.Kirkire is a celebrated lyricist, having won two National Film Awards for Best Lyrics: first in 2007 for the song "Bande Mein Tha Dum... Vande Mataram" from Lage Raho Munna Bhai, and again in 2009 for "Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh" from 3 Idiots. His lyrical work is known for its depth and emotional resonance, and he has contributed to numerous other popular films such as Barfi! and Kai Po Che!.In addition to his success as a lyricist, Kirkire has established a significant career as an actor. His acting credits include roles in films like Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, and the 2022 film Three of Us. He won another National Film Award, this time for Best Supporting Actor, for his performance in the Marathi film Chumbak (2018). He also appears in the 2025 film Maalik.
