Sydney Bernice Sweeney, born on September 12, 1997, in Spokane, Washington, is an American actress and producer. She was raised in north Idaho in a rural lakeside home that has been in her family for five generations. Her mother is a former criminal defense lawyer, and her father is a hospitality professional. Sweeney became interested in acting after auditioning to be an extra in an independent film. To convince her parents to let her pursue acting, she presented them with a five-year business plan, leading the family to relocate to Los Angeles when she was 13.Sweeney began her career with brief appearances in TV shows like "Heroes," "Criminal Minds," and "90210." Her first significant role was as Young Alice in the 2010 film "The Ward." She gained wider recognition in 2018 for her roles in "Everything Sucks!" and "The Handmaid's Tale," and in the limited series "Sharp Objects." Her breakthrough came in 2019 with her portrayal of Cassie Howard in the HBO drama series "Euphoria," which earned her an Emmy nomination. She also received an Emmy nomination for her role as Olivia Mossbacher in the first season of "The White Lotus" (2021). Other notable roles include Dianne "Snake" Lake in Quentin Tarantino's "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" (2019), Sister Cecilia in "Immaculate" (2024), and Bea in the romantic comedy "Anyone But You" (2023), which she also executive produced.
