Takako Matsu (松たか子), born on June 10, 1977, in Tokyo, Japan, is a renowned Japanese actress and singer celebrated for her versatility and compelling performances across film, television, and theater. She is the daughter of kabuki actor Matsumoto Kōshirō IX and businesswoman Noriko Fujima, which rooted her in a rich artistic lineage. Matsu debuted in theater at the age of 16 and quickly transitioned into television, starring in the 1994 NHK series Hana no Ran. Her film career is marked by a series of critically acclaimed roles. Notably, she won the Best Actress award at the Japan Academy Film Prize in 2004 for her performance in The Hidden Blade. She also received the Best Actress award at the Hochi Film Awards for her role in Villon’s Wife in 2009. In 2010, she starred in Confessions, a psychological thriller that was shortlisted for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards and garnered her a nomination for Best Actress at the Japan Academy Film Prize. On television, Matsu's portrayal of Maki Maki in the 2017 drama Quartet earned her the Best Actress award at the Television Drama Academy Awards and the Confidence Award Drama Prize. The series itself won multiple accolades, including Best Drama. In addition to her acting career, Matsu is a talented singer.
