Tamara Tunie
Tamara Tunie is an American actress, director, and producer. She was born on March 14, 1959, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. She is best known for her long-running roles as attorney Jessica Griffin on the CBS soap opera As the World Turns (1987–1995, 1999–2007, 2009) and as medical examiner Melinda Warner in the NBC police drama Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2000–21021). She has also appeared in numerous films, including Wall Street (1987), The Devil's Advocate (1997), The Caveman's Valentine (2001), and Flight (2012) opposite Denzel Washington, with whom she also co-starred on Broadway in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar.Tunie's career extends beyond acting to include producing and directing. She won a Tony Award in 2007 for producing the Broadway musical Spring Awakening and has also produced other plays, including the Tony-nominated Radio Golf. In 2010, she made her directorial debut with the feature film See You in September.She is a dedicated philanthropist, serving on the boards of several non-profit organizations, including Harlem Stage and Figure Skating in Harlem, a program that supports academic excellence and life skills for young girls through figure skating. Tunie earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre from Carnegie Mellon University, where she now serves on the Board of Trustees.
