Thandiwe Newton OBE, born Melanie Thandiwe Newton on November 6, 1972, is an esteemed English actress recognized for her compelling roles in both major blockbusters and critically acclaimed independent projects. She achieved wide recognition with early roles in films like Interview with the Vampire (1994) and the title role in Beloved (1998), which paved the way for her starring role as Nyah Nordoff-Hall in Mission: Impossible 2 (2000). Newton won the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her powerful performance as Christine Thayer in the Oscar-winning ensemble drama Crash (2004). On television, she is most celebrated for her role as the sentient android madam Maeve Millay in the HBO science fiction series Westworld (2016–2022), for which she won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Her diverse filmography also includes roles in The Pursuit of Happyness (2006), RocknRolla (2008), 2012 (2009), and Val in Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018).
