Tim Burchett

Timothy Floyd Burchett is an American Republican politician born on August 25, 1964, in Knoxville, Tennessee. An East Tennessee native, he attended Bearden High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 1988. Prior to his extensive public service career, Burchett was a small businessman who started his own company, which converted grass waste into mulch and compost. His political career began in the Tennessee General Assembly, where he served in the State House of Representatives for four years (1995–1999) followed by 12 years in the State Senate (1999–2010). He then served as the Mayor of Knox County from 2010 to 2018, where his administration focused on fiscal conservatism, reportedly building new schools, launching infrastructure projects, and paying down debt without raising taxes. Since January 2019, Burchett has been the U.S. Representative for Tennessee's 2nd congressional district, and he currently serves on the House Committees on Oversight and Government Reform, Foreign Affairs, and Transportation and Infrastructure. He lives in the Gibbs Community of Knox County with his wife, Kelly, and their daughter, Isabel.
