Tim DeZarn (born July 11, 1952) is a prolific American character actor with a career spanning over four decades, particularly recognized for his work in the horror, science fiction, and crime genres. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he attended Archbishop McNicholas High School and did not begin his professional acting journey until the age of 25. He rose to prominence in the late 1980s and 1990s with a string of guest appearances on high-profile television series, including The Equalizer, L.A. Law, Seinfeld, and NYPD Blue. He became a familiar face in the Star Trek universe, appearing in multiple iterations of the franchise including The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager. His television credits also feature recurring or notable roles in Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, Deadwood, Sons of Anarchy (as the militia leader Nate Meineke), and most recently, Better Call Saul. In film, DeZarn is often cast as gritty, authoritative, or "harbinger" style characters. He played Inspector Bird in the cult classic Fight Club (1999) and Philip Watson (Mary Jane’s father) in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man (2002). Within the horror community, he is celebrated for his role as Mordecai, the ominous gas station attendant and "harbinger," in The Cabin in the Woods (2012). He has also appeared in Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, and Live Free or Die Hard. In the 2021 reboot of Wrong Turn, he played Nate Roades, a local who initially appears as a hostile stereotype but eventually subverts audience expectations during the film's climax. DeZarn lives in Los Angeles with his wife, actress Janine Venable; he also produced and starred in the 2017 film Buckshot, a performance that earned him several independent film festival awards.
