Tim McMullan
Born in 1963 in Lambeth, London, Tim McMullan is a distinguished British actor known for his commanding stage presence and versatile screen performances. He began his academic journey studying History at the University of St Andrews before pursuing formal acting training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), from which he graduated in 1989. McMullan’s career has been characterized by a deep and enduring relationship with the Royal National Theatre, where he has appeared in over 20 productions, including Antony & Cleopatra, Twelfth Night, and the 2024 revival of Mnemonic. He is also a long-time collaborator with the acclaimed physical theatre company Complicité, a partnership that has significantly influenced his artistic style. On television, McMullan reached a new level of international recognition for his portrayal of the cerebral, fictional German detective Atticus Pünd in the Anthony Horowitz mystery series Magpie Murders (2022) and its 2024 sequel Moonflower Murders. His extensive television credits also include playing Arthur Valentine in Foyle’s War, Douglas Cartwright in The Serpent, and roles in The Crown and Patrick Melrose. On the big screen, he has appeared in high-profile films such as Shakespeare in Love, The Fifth Element, and The Queen.
