Elizabeth Stamatina "Tina" Fey is an American actress, comedian, writer, and producer, widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in modern comedy. Born on May 18, 1970, in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, she began her career at the Chicago-based improvisational comedy troupe, The Second City, after graduating from the University of Virginia.Fey's breakthrough came in 1997 when she was hired as a writer for the NBC sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live (SNL). Two years later, she became the show's first female head writer and, in 2000, debuted as the co-anchor of the "Weekend Update" segment alongside Jimmy Fallon. Her time on SNL was marked by a sharp wit and a number of iconic moments, including her Emmy-winning impersonation of U.S. Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin.In 2004, she wrote and starred in the hit comedy film Mean Girls, which has since become a cultural phenomenon. Two years later, she left SNL to create, write, and star in the critically acclaimed sitcom 30 Rock, a satirical show based on her experiences at SNL.
