Tom Basden
Tom Basden (born November 30, 1980) is an accomplished English actor, writer, and comedian. He gained significant recognition as the co-creator and co-star of the critically acclaimed ITV2 sitcom Plebs, which won the Royal Television Society award for Best Scripted Comedy in 2014. Basden was also nominated for Best Newcomer at the 2007 Edinburgh Comedy Awards and is a member of the sketch comedy group Cowards.As an actor, Basden has appeared in numerous television shows including After Life, Man Vs Bee, The Last Bus, Quacks, Ghosts, The Windsors, W1A, and The Wrong Mans. He also featured in the film David Brent: Life on the Road. His filmography includes the 2025 release The Ballad of Wallis Island, which he co-wrote and in which he also stars as Herb McGwyer.Beyond acting, Basden is a prolific writer. He co-created and wrote Plebs and also created and wrote the BBC comedy series Here We Go. His writing credits extend to shows like Peep Show, Fresh Meat, and The Wrong Mans. He is also a talented playwright, with his adaptation of Dario Fo's Accidental Death of an Anarchist receiving critical acclaim. He has written plays for the National Theatre and other venues.Basden frequently collaborates with fellow comedian Tim Key, including as the musical sidekick in Key's Radio 4 comedy Tim Key's Late Night Poetry Programme.
