Tommy Chong

Thomas B. Kin Chong (born May 24, 1938) is a Canadian-American comedian, actor, writer, director, and activist, most famously known as one half of the iconic comedy duo Cheech & Chong. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Chong's career began in music before he found widespread fame in the late 1960s with Cheech Marin, creating a unique brand of "stoner comedy" that resonated with counter-culture audiences. Their films, including "Up in Smoke" (1978), "Cheech and Chong's Next Movie" (1980), and "Nice Dreams" (1981), became cult classics, often featuring characters navigating humorous situations related to cannabis use. Beyond his work with Cheech & Chong, he is recognized for his role as Leo on the popular Fox sitcom "That '70s Show" and later "That '90s Show," as well as for voice acting in films like "Zootopia" (2016). A prominent advocate for cannabis legalization, Chong's personal experiences, including serving a nine-month federal prison sentence in 2003 for selling drug paraphernalia, have fueled his activism and further solidified his status as a counter-culture icon. He continues to perform stand-up comedy and engage in various projects related to cannabis and entertainment.
