Tony Liu Tian-jue, commonly credited as Tony Liu or by his Cantonese stage name Lau Wing, is a veteran Hong Kong actor and martial artist born on February 7, 1952 in Hong Kong. He is well-known for starring in many classic Hong Kong martial arts films primarily from the 1970s and 1980s. Tony Liu was born to Hong Kong actress Lai Man and a sailor, growing up in Kowloon City. He was childhood friends with martial arts legends Bruce Lee and Lam Ching-ying and trained in multiple martial arts disciplines including Hapkido, jujutsu, and Gōjū-ryū, holding a 3rd dan rank in the latter. He began his career as a teenager with Golden Harvest studio in 1970, making his film debut as the villain's son in Bruce Lee's "The Big Boss" (1971). He also appeared in other Bruce Lee classics such as "Fist of Fury" (1972), "The Way of the Dragon" (1972), and "Enter the Dragon" (1973). Liu later joined the Shaw Brothers studio in 1975, where he played leading roles like the Qianlong Emperor in "Emperor Chien Lung" (1976) and its sequels. In addition to films, he has acted in television series, often remembered for roles as historical figures like Qing Shi Huang and Genghis Khan. His long career showcases a versatile actor and skilled martial artist who contributed significantly to Hong Kong cinema and martial arts film history. As of 2025, Tony Liu remains respected as a prominent figure in the martial arts and acting world.
