Trevor John Eve (born 1 July 1951 in Sutton Coldfield, near Birmingham, England) is a distinguished English actor and producer with a career spanning stage, television, and film . Born to Stewart Frederick Eve and Elsie Hamer, Eve initially pursued architecture at Kingston Polytechnic but soon switched to acting, graduating from RADA in 1973 . He launched his stage career at the Liverpool Everyman and earned two Olivier Awards: Best Actor for Children of a Lesser God (1982) and Best Supporting Actor for Uncle Vanya (1997). Trevor rose to fame as the title character in BBC’s detective series Shoestring (1979–1980), and later earned widespread acclaim portraying Detective Superintendent Peter Boyd in Waking the Dead (2000–2011). His film roles include Jonathan Harker in Dracula (1979) and Velior in Troy (2004) .He continues to act in series such as I, Jack Wright and Unforgotten while serving as CEO of Projector Pictures, producing titles like Kidnap and Ransom, The Body Farm, and stage adaptations including Twelfth Night and Cinderella. Off-screen, he married actress Sharon Maughan in 1980; the couple have three children, notably actress Alice Eve.Trevor also supports charity work as a patron of Child Hope UK. Renowned for his perfectionism—rooted in mentorship under Laurence Olivier—Eve once embraced a more vocal approach to his craft. However, he has tempered this in recent years after acknowledging that his demanding nature may have cost him roles.
