Uwe Preuss

Uwe Preuss (born 1961 in Dresden, East Germany) is a versatile German actor and author. He spent his childhood in São Paulo, Brazil—where his father worked as an engineer—before returning to the DDR and training as an industrial clerk. In 1984 he applied to leave East Germany and, by 1985, relocated to West Berlin to study acting at the Berlin University of the Arts (1986–1990). He began his stage career in 1992 at the Dresden State Theater, then joined the prestigious Berliner Ensemble under Heiner Müller from 1995 until 2002. Since 2005, Preuss has worked freelance across theater, film, television, and audio dramas, including notable engagements at Schaubühne, Maxim Gorki Theatre, and Volksbühne in Berlin. On-screen, Preuss is recognized for strong performances in crime and drama productions. He gained acclaim as Henning Röder, head of homicide in Polizeiruf 110 Rostock, and appeared in productions such as Deutschland 83/86/89, Im Angesicht des Verbrechens, 4 Blocks, Dogs of Berlin, and more recently in the film Köln 75 . He debuted as an author in 2020 with Katzensprung, a collection of autobiographical stories. Preuss resides in Wandlitz near Berlin. He has received several accolades including Best Actor at the ÉCU European Independent Film Festival (2013), nominations for the Grimme-Preis (2016) and Deutscher Fernsehpreis, and won a Deutscher Fernsehpreis in 2023.
