A graduate of Flinders University Drama Centre, she is the daughter of Robert and Diana Hill. Hill's career spans both Australian and international film and television, and she is based between New York City and Sydney. She began her career in theater before transitioning to screen roles, with her early film credits including Dead End (1999) and Siam Sunset (1999). Her profile rose with roles in films such as Hunt Angels (2006), December Boys (2007) alongside Daniel Radcliffe, and a co-writing and co-producing role for a modern-day adaptation of Shakespeare's Macbeth (2006), in which she also starred as Lady Macbeth.
