Yorgos Mavropsaridis
Yorgos Mavropsaridis is a highly respected Greek film editor known for his long-standing and critically acclaimed collaboration with director Yorgos Lanthimos. Born in 1954 in Athens, he is a graduate of the London Film School and honed his skills working in commercials, where he first met Lanthimos. He has edited all of Lanthimos's feature films, beginning with Kinetta (2005), and their partnership is considered a key element in shaping the director's distinctive cinematic voice.Mavropsaridis's editing style is celebrated for its rhythmic precision, its ability to build tension, and its use of unconventional cuts and transitions that enhance the dark humor and unsettling atmosphere of Lanthimos's films. His work on The Favourite (2018) earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Film Editing, a BAFTA nomination, and the ACE Eddie Award. He received a second Academy Award nomination for his editing on Poor Things (2023). In addition to his work with Lanthimos, he has also edited films for other acclaimed directors, including Monos (2019) and Chevalier (2015).
