Yugabharathi (born Prem Kumar on 1976) is a renowned Tamil poet, lyricist, and writer who has made significant contributions to the Tamil film industry. Born in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, he adopted the pen name "Yugabharathi" in the early 1990s as a tribute to the legendary poet Subramanya Bharathi. He completed his schooling at Maxwell Matriculation Higher Secondary School and later earned a diploma in mechanical engineering from the Government Polytechnic College in Aranthangi. Before transitioning to cinema, he began his career in literature, serving as an editor for the esteemed literary magazine Kanaiyazhi. His cinematic journey began with the song "Pallankuzhiyin Vattam Parthaen" from the film Aanandham (2001). Over a career spanning more than two decades, he has penned over 1,500 songs, including massive hits like "Manmada Rasa" (Thiruda Thirudi), "Kadhal Pisase" (Run), "Konja Neram" (Chandramukhi), and "Kannamma" (Rekka). Recognized for his ability to blend traditional Tamil literature with modern trends, he has been honored with the Kalaimamani Award (2015) and the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Lyricist. Beyond songwriting, Yugabharathi is a published author of several books, including Manapathayam and Vaaliba Vaarthaigal, and has also worked as a dialogue writer for films.
