Yulia Sergeevna Peresild (born September 5, 1984, in Pskov, Russia) is a distinguished Russian actress, singer, and cosmonaut, celebrated for her extensive work in film, television, and theater. She graduated from the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts in 2006 and has been a leading actress at the State Theatre of Nations since 2007. Peresild gained widespread recognition for her roles in films such as The Edge (2010), Battle for Sevastopol (2015), and The Challenge (2023), where she portrayed a thoracic surgeon aboard the International Space Station, making her the first professional actress to film in space . In 2021, she participated in the Soyuz MS-19 mission to the ISS, becoming the fifth Russian woman to travel into space and the second to work aboard the station. Her performance in The Challenge earned her the 2024 Nika Award for Best Actress, among other accolades . Beyond her acting career, Peresild is known for her philanthropic efforts, including co-founding the 'Galchonok' fund to support children with cerebral palsy.
