Zachary George Roerig is an American actor born on February 22, 1985, in Montpelier, Ohio, to Daniel and Andrea Roerig. In his youth, he was a natural athlete, playing football and wrestling for Montpelier High School. He also worked with his father and grandfather in the family business, Fackler Monuments, making gravestones. Roerig developed an interest in acting during his teenage years, leading him to train in Cleveland and later moving to New York City to pursue his career after graduating high school. He quickly found success, securing roles on daytime soap operas such as "As the World Turns" (2005-2007) as Casey Hughes and "One Life to Live" (2007) as Hunter Atwood. He also appeared on the critically acclaimed series "Friday Night Lights" (2008-2009) as rodeo cowboy Cash. Roerig gained significant recognition for his role as Matt Donovan on The CW's supernatural drama "The Vampire Diaries," which he starred in from 2009 to 2017, and reprised the role in its spin-offs "The Originals" and "Legacies." His film credits include "Rings" (2017), "Assassination of a High School President" (2008), and "The Last Full Measure" (2019).
