Zhao Xiaoding
Zhao Xiaoding is a Chinese photographer and cinematographer born on September 30, 1968, in Beijing. He is best known for his long-standing collaboration with director Zhang Yimou. Zhao was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Cinematography for his work on the 2004 film House of Flying Daggers. He attended the Beijing Film Academy, where he studied cinematography. His work with Zhang Yimou includes films such as Riding Alone for Thousands of Miles, Curse of the Golden Flower, The Flowers of War, and Shadow. Zhao has also worked as a producer and director, notably directing and shooting the 2017 film Once Upon a Time. In addition to his Academy Award nomination, he has received numerous other accolades, including wins and nominations from the Boston Society of Film Critics, the National Society of Film Critics, the Satellite Awards, and the Golden Horse Awards.
