There are four Riddick Movies – But this one can stand by itself

Spoiler Alert, I’m going to cover a lot of details about this movie. If you don’t want to read this then stop now and just watch the movie. It’s worth the time and if you like fast paced Sci-Fi you will enjoy this movie.First and foremost, I love the Vin Diesel character “Riddick.” But truth be told, if you don’t go for this type of Sci-Fi then just watch “The Chronicles of Riddick (TCOR).” It is one of my favorite movies. This movie picks up where TCOR left off, with Riddick bored and paranoid after assuming the role of the Grand Marshal. You simply have to watch TCOR in order to get this. He arranges with some of his enemies to take him back to his home world (Furia). But instead, he winds up on “not furia.” A backstabbing betrayal by the Necromongers leaves him stranded and slightly wounded on this far away hostile planet. What follows is a great story of adaptation, survival and good old fashion “I’m the alpha and you would have saved a whole lot of lives and butt-kicking if you had just started with that.” But no, after battling through some really hideous, poisonous and downright scary reptile like monsters and befriending a really cool looking alien dog (the dog steals the show with every appearance) Riddick emerges in to a fairly safe part of the planet with no monsters (as of yet). He stumbles up on an abandoned relay station and sends out a distress call. Two different ships of mercs show up to try and hunt him down for the bounty on his head. What happens after that is some really good story telling by whoever made up this story. At this point if you want to find out what takes place in this final installment for the Riddick franchise I suggest you watch the film. This movie will not win any Oscars, but the action, suspense, drama and CG effects are outstanding. There’s LOT’S of action and plenty of Riddick slays the bad guys (Heck Riddick slays everybody, good and bad). Some great one liners and Katee Sakhoff and Matt Nable, both deliver great performances. It helps a lot if you are familiar with the earlier works, especially “Pitch Black”, but if you are not you should still enjoy this film.I hope you find this helpful, and you keep a stiff spine.

An excellent return to form for Riddick Saga. The fourth film is now shooting.

The third part of Riddick Saga receives a nice upgrade to 4K. There’s a copious amount of extras and the film has never looked better. Audio is terrific on this with a very active mix.The third installment finds Riddick betrayed by the Necro mongers. He is told that they found his home planet they take them there and they leave him for dead. After recovering in this hostile environment, Riddick discovers a way to get a ride back home from bounty hunters and that’s when the fun begins. The third film was originally shot at 2K so this has been upscale from 2K and it is a marvelous looking upscale. Detail is improved depth is improved delineation is improved overall compared to the original Blu-ray from over a decade ago. Well, this isn’t the best of the Riddick films, it comes in second place after “Pitch Black” has a high-quality adventure that is entertaining if sometimes a bit predictable. This film doesn’t focus on the world building of the second film.” The Chronicles of Riddick” and is much smaller than scope, which is really to the films advantage because it focuses on our characters and their struggle to survive. Kate Sackoff has a terrific supporting role. The entire cast is exceptional and does a great job working with the limitations of their character characters in the plot.Shot entirely on sound stages, using CGI for backdrops and backgrounds, this is an excellent film. That fans will enjoy. Shop Factory does a great job of updating this for 4K. It’s well mastered with plenty of space to handle all the darker sequences in the film. Highly recommend.

If you are a Riddick fan this is a must own DVD. It is an action movie you will view again and again. I loved it.

I have been an enthusiastic fan of the Riddick series with Vin Diesel since the first movie (Pitch Black) came out many years ago. Besides seeing all the series at the movies (with the exception of the cartoon version) I have also bought all the movies in this series. I recently purchased this DVD (Riddick: Rule the dark) at a bargain price on Amazon. My collection is now complete until he comes out with a new Riddick adventure. This tale begins where the last movie ends. Riddick as we know is an escaped convict and is known to be very dangerous. There is always a super high price on his head which means every bounty hunter in the universe is after him. After he is left for dead on what appears to be a hot and dead planet, his survival instincts kick in as he must battle the planet’s many predators. He realizes that staying on this hellish planet is not an option and sends out a signal into space that he is a wanted criminal with a bounty on his head. Not one, but two groups of vicious bounty hunters land and this is where the action begins to be intense as Riddick outsmarts those people out to get him. This is a story that is filled with the kind of action we have grown to love with the character of Riddick. I hope Vin Diesel makes more of these Riddick movies in the future.Rating: 5 Stars. Riddick

Great movie I like it so much that I bought all 4 of the movies digital so I can when ever I want. If you’re thinking there are only 3, Pitch Black, the Chronicles of Riddick and Riddick that’s true for the live action movies. But there is the animated Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury that takes place after Pitch Black and before the Chronicles of Riddick.

    Tough Freakin’ Furian

I love all the Riddick films. I think the concept and story line is interesting and fun. This film, being the 3rd in a trilogy of actual films in the theater, (the 2nd story was an animated short film; I don’t even know if it ever aired or played in theaters – so actually there is a total of 4 stories/films all together) but like many sequels, Riddick isn’t nearly as great as the first 2 movies were. Don’t get me wrong, this is still a great film, but I think they may have waited to long in releasing it. I watched the bonus interview with Vin Diesel talking about the making of the film, and from what I understand, it was a matter of funding that keep this film, Riddick, from being made earlier. Nevertheless, this story has much of what is expected of the Riddick character in the story. Riddick is on an alien planet, hiding from bounty hunters, who are seeking him out to collect a large pay role (as well as Riddick’s head in a box); lots of monstrous aliens (which of course Riddick beats up and kills on multiple occasions); cool space ships, lots of action, cool futuristic space motorcycles, good guys and bad guys. What more could you ask for from a Riddick film. But like I say, sequels sometimes loose that magic that they start out with. This is not necessarily the case here, but the film Riddick (in my humble opinion) does not compare to the first 2 “films” in a production or direction aspects. Thats not to say its not good. It is. But the first 2 films surpass it. If you like the previous Riddick films there’s no doubt you’ll enjoy this one. Its action packed and as usual Vin plays a wonderful portrayal of this Furian tough guy. I enjoyed it very much.

    Riddick is so coooooolllllll!!!!!!!

I think this movie was great. Riddick was thrust into a situation he’s never been in before. He’s on a desolated rock of a world, being hunted by “Merc’s” all while evading the predators that inhabit the planet. Johns is in a relentless pursuit to capture Riddick, no matter what barriers he must tear down. They all end up relying on each other to fight the predators on their home turf. Hold on, I don’t remember if I’m reviewing the first or the last movie. Well, I think I’m just gonna wing it from this point and review the movie the way I think it should have been.Riddick is a middle aged degenerate, constantly being forced to just do what he’s told and follow the crowd. He has relationship problems with his girlfriend because he refuses to commit to a shallow life with her. She seems to control everything and he just wants to be free and uninhabited. His professional life is in shambles as well, working for an uncharismatic boss at his 9 to 5 Monday through Friday job for an IT firm known as “Initech.” He wants to do something different with his life, but has no motivation to make a move in the desired direction. Well dang, I must’ve have been drinking cause I just mixed up Riddick and Office Space. Why doesn’t Riddick just get some cool sunglasses? He never really swims with his goggles. When he does hit the water,…… no goggles. What’s up with the blonde chick. I thought she was from the last movie, but I guess not. She’s the annoying girl from Battlestar Galctica. I have to say, she kinda ruined that show from me. I was hoping Riddick would have punched her in the face for being so dumb on that show, but nooooooo. He wanted to make sweet love to her.Anyways, it was a good movie. I liked the action, although Batista didn’t power bomb Riddick, it was rather entertaining. I would definitely recommend this movie to my great grandmother. Evidently I did’nt write enough so this makes up the rest.

Riddick is the role Vin Diesel Was Made For

This is technically the “second” of the Riddick series–Pitch Black (also an excellent movie), according to the director/writer, was the “Prequel” to the series. While Chronicles of Riddick will always be my favorite, borrowing elements (nicely) from David Lynch’s Dune, this film seems a bit more like the original prequel (Pitch Black), but with a bigger budget, and with plot points that connect the three films.Without giving any spoilers away, Riddick finds himself on another harsh planet, working both with and against two teams of mercenaries. Vin Diesel is the only guy who can play this role. He really gets into it, alike a classical, method actor. His facial expressions are wide-ranging and suit the various aspects of the plot. He retains the glowing eyes/infrared vision from the rest of the series. It’s a thrilling ride with a lot of innovative creatures and plot twists. Also, where Chronicles of Riddick borrowed heavily from Dune, this film takes quite a few elements from the Aliens movies (Alien and Aliens (the sequel, which was excellent). It’s a thrilling ride, innovative, and simply kick ass.My only two qualms with the film are1) The endng–I watched it digital download as soon as it was out, but the blu-ray, Director’s Cut version has an alternate ending. I’d like to see that without buying/renting it again.2) The Title – “Riddick” – I feel like they went the safe route and called it Riddiick, when it really is the third film in the series. They could have given it a better/more aggressive name given that it was the third film. I feel like calling it Riddick played it safe for audiences, when it really was the third title in the series. But, you take what you can get. Regardless, it is an excellent film, and I give it 5/5 for sure. Definitely worth a the price.
