What’s not to like?
I wasn’t going to write a review for The Predator because there were already 7,0000+ of them…but when I saw the first five or so were 1-star reviews, I had to. I’d never even heard of this flick until it popped up on television (I thought PredatorS was the most recent of these. I was having a surprisingly good time with it until I couldn’t take the overdubbing of the bad words anymore. When you replace the word “pussy” (in its various definitions), you lose the true meaning of the moment. I stopped watching, went to Amazon Prime, and rented the thing for $3.99. Pussies intact. I’m not a huge Predator fan but over the years I have seen 3 or 4 of them and generally enjoy them. I didn’t really care for the original Predator movie (gasp!) and after this film, the one I liked next-best was Alien vs. Predator (double gasp?!) so perhaps I’m no purist. But hey. This had fun action, snappy, funny dialogue and thoroughly likable characters. Sure, there are logistical and physics-defying reality checks, but so what. This is a movie about a dread attired space alien hunter predator. There’s a bit of suspension of disbelieve required. Director/writer Shane Black always has witty and original dialogue and the characters, especially the sidekicks, deliver it with style and humor without being obnoxious. Keenan-Michael Key can’t NOT be funny and endearing. Although testosterone-heavy, the females are strong and smart without being annoying bitches with attitude. Lead actor Boyd Holbrook has been great in every role in which I’ve seen him, big or small. His character is 100% alpha without going into gratuitous macho territory. The action is expectedly CGI-happy, but still fun. Bottom line: it’s an alien-action-buddy(s) flick and a rollicking good time. And I rather liked the predator pooches.

Worth a look
Have only watched this twice but it’s been growing on me. Have always been a fan of Shane Blacks’s crime noir movies so decided to give it a shot after reading some tepid reviews. Much of controversy concerns the focus on mental health issues but I feel that is handled in a very considerate manner and leavened with some good humor, I particularly liked it when the soldier verified the evolutionary biologist’s observation that Predator may not be the correct name for it. If you liked the original, go ahead and give this a chance, picture quality is excellent and there are some original set pieces and in all honesty, doesn’t fall all that far from the tree.

I must be a contrarian because this was awesome!
Based on the other reviews, I think fans of the series have a combination of childhood memory bias and miserable lives. Sure there were some corny elements but overall this delivered. It was action packed all the way through with no dull moments. The predator and upgrade predator had terrific violent scenes. Definitely a fun movie. Outside of the original Predator, I think you’re insane if you’re going to suggest any of the others were better than this one.As for the acting and humor… I went in very upset from the reviews because I hate forced humor more than anything in a movie and it sounded like Shane Black wrecked it with his style. I thought the acting would be terrible but worth suffering through to see a predator again. Well, the acting was the surprise of the movie. I didn’t laugh, but I also didn’t find the humor to happen too often and it didn’t detract at all. The acting outside of the humor was shockingly great. I liked every character in some way and I think they succeeded as much as possible to create an attachment to the characters especially considering the genre.The last act was definitely the low point as others suggested and I don’t like various elements of the end plot that I won’t spoil. But up to that point I was loving the entire film and I wouldn’t say the end was terrible. I give it five stars because the action and the cast were phenomenal. The story line was decent and carried well by the two former points.

Not the best one, but watchable.
Too much comedy is not a good match for this movie. If I want to watch a comedy movie, I know in which section to find it. The plot of this movie is weird. A bunch of former military Lonnie’s are joining up with the main actor of the movie and his sone to save them from the predator and secret agents. I’m surprised this got such a high rating. The ending of the movie and the fight with the predator was an insult and so unrealistic.The predator is like a giant which is not relatable from the previous movies. What is this king Kong! The fight of the predator in the forest was, so stupid he just stands their and takes all the shots from everyone where in reality they usually hop from one tree to another and disappear.The form does not follow the function of this movie in comparison with the other versions. I hope the producers are reading this and learning from this criticism. Please no silly jokes which ruined the seriousness of this movie. I hate when people throw comedy in a movie where it does not belong. Again, if I want to watch comedy, I know in which category it’s in.

Great movie but the 4k disc doesn’t play.
The movie itself is much better than what the critics and General Public labeled it to be. I cannot say the same for the 4K disc which was never read properly and would just freeze or skip to the point it was unwatchable. I had just watched another 4k movie that played with zero issue, so I know it’s shoddy manufacturing of the disc or maybe I just got a bad copy. I had to watch the regular Blu Ray in order to watch the movie.That being said; I loved this movie! Shane Black (who played Hawkins in the original movie) adds to the Predator lore and does it with humor and style. Great special effects, interesting story and really good acting. This time it is not a special ops mercenary team against the Predator, it is a bus full of section 8 loonies led by an Army Ranger Sniper. There are some hilarious moments in this movie and you end up really caring about “Group 2.”Predator, Predators, the Predator, Predator 2, Alien vs Predator, Prey and AVP2 Requiem is how I would rate the movies. Instead of the new woke direct to Hulu movie they should have continued the story of this one.

A good movie in the franchise!
With all the negative reviews this movie has I almost rented something else to watch last night. As I read more and more reviews I saw all the bad ones but the positive ones were very positive and seemed to come from total fans of the first movie and also from fans of the later movies and the AVP movies. It’s almost as if someone made a template of things they didn’t like about this movie and all the other dunderheads simply copied it or there is something more sinister afoot with people wanting to outright sabotage this film. Having said all that, I totally enjoyed the movie and had no problem with the often “A-Team”-ish humor. It was nice to see Olivia Munn being in a vehicle which allowed her to showcase her speaking, wit and to me good-excellent all around acting…. although I would be a liar if I didn’t admit to wanting to see her in a plastic wrap Predator hunting outfit… but back to reality. I didn’t find the plot “disjointed” or “there being an obvious change to Act 3” as I’ve never seen a prior version of this movie or read the original script so I don’t know wtf those reviewers were referring to. I was awestruck by the first Predator film when it first came out and like #4 with Brody and crew and #2 about the same. #3 can be flushed down the same drain as Alien 3. Don’t be afraid to rent or buy this movie as you will want to watch it again…. and note to Amazon: Please check on your review system as I think something is broken.

Just watch it
Okay so this is a Predator movie that completely understands it is a Predator movie (for 2019). You’ll see reviews about “uwu bad skwipt, uwu bad witing, uwu” but don’t listen to the modern armchair critic. Listen to me. I’ve been watching action movies my entire life. I grew up on Arnold and Stallone. The original Predator was made in an era before we had things like Mad Max: Fury Road, Pacific Rim, and DREDD. In other words movies that know what they are and aren’t trying to “send a message” or reinvent the wheel.This movie does not attempt to reinvent the wheel (as others reviews will tell you), because it doesn’t have to. It’s a damn PREDATOR movie, it isn’t Shakespeare. Here is a list of what you’ll get from trusting me and watching this movie:1) CAMP. Tons of campy action that you love.2) Plenty of nods to its lineage. It respects its origins, both in and out of universe.3) People getting JACKED UP4) Predators mixing it up (and looking great)5) TONS of Predator screen time (none of this Jaws, OH YOU ONLY SEE THE MONSTER ONCE IT’S VISIONARY artsy fartsy horse shut)We watch these movies because we WANT to see the damn monster. This movie follows the doctrine of audience indulgence and gives you exactly what you want, which is monster screen time, watchable action, out-of-action camp, likable if not believable characters, nods to its lineage, and tons and tons of hedonistic action movie butter to smear on your chest.So what are you waiting for? SMEAR IT ON YOUR CHEST!

Worth the money.
This is not a remake of the original. I didn’t expect it to be because I am sure I heard the word reimagined used in the trailers somewhere? That said. It was a very good job and leaves the door wide open for an interesting sequel. The level of graphic violence was a few notches up from the original so if you are bothered by blood splashes. This may not be the movie for you. (Update) I thought I would come back and edit my review after reading through other reviews. I was surprised to find so many negative reviews for this movie. It looks like lists of clones of the same review to be honest, especially on subjects such as climate change, autism, acting and the script and to a certain extent. I agree with them all but here’s the thing. Thinking about it in retrospect there were two things that caught my attention. I reversal of the use of the line “you’re an ugly mf” to beautiful mf? This is incongruous and nonsensical or just nonsense. The other was the leader of the military team. Terrible acting and was a relief when he shot his own head off with the alien tech even if that in itself didn’t make sense. These two events stood out for me. I never read reviews for a movie before I watch the movie because so much of it is subjective. I gave the movie 5 stars because it was early in the morning and I wasn’t awake properly but I am not going to change it because I believe it provides a realistic balance against the negative one star reviews. Could it have been better? Yes. Could it have been worse? Also yes. I plan to watch it again with a particular eye on the plot and standard of acting but. It is worth a mention that all those complaining about the bad acting? It was Arnold Schwarzenegger who starred in the original wasn’t it? He is not exactly your Royal Shakespeare Company quality actor now is he.
