“A nightmare come true for fans of seriously scary movies!” – Joe Leydon, San Francisco Examiner What a house! It’s all steel and glass and elegance – and it all belongs to Arthur Kriticos and his family as an unexpected inheritance. You could say it’s their dream home. Especially if the dreams are nightmares. Awesome ectoplasmic specters populate Thirteen Ghosts, an effects-rampant remake of the 1960 William Castle haunted-house film from producers Gilbert Adler, Joel Silver and Robert Zemeckis, who conjured up the equally terrorific House On Haunted Hill (1999). Tony Shalhoub leads a cast that includes Embeth Davidtz, Matthew Lillard, Shannon Elizabeth, Rah Digga and F. Murray Abraham. The house itself is a design marvel and a mysterious puzzle-cube whose eerie corridors, sliding walls, spinning floors and phantasmic fiends may allow no escape. Thir13en Ghosts 2001 Blu-ray

    Love it

I absolutely love this movie. I couldn’t find it anywhere or on anything. So when me and the fiancé were looking for stuff for the house that we couldn’t find at the store, he was like hey why not look here and we found it. I couldn’t have been happier when there it was. I’m excited too because he said he has never seen it.

    5 STAR RELEASE

THIR13EN GHOSTSI forgot how much I truly enjoyed this film, thankfully Scream Factory would put this Collector’s Edition together. I remember when this film first came out in the early 2000’s and we went to check it out. This is a super fun movie and great remake of the old William Castle movie “13 Ghosts”, hence the production company was named Dark Castle Entertainment. This was the second Castle remake following the number one opening “House on Haunted Hill”. So they naturally went into this film as the follow up.The film follows a Man named Arthur who recently lost his wife and is left as a single father with two kids, although he does a nanny that he may have to let go. That of course may be changing when he is informed that his very rich Uncle has recently passed away and left everything to him. One of those things left to him is a mansion that is very unique, the house seems to be made of glass with Latin inscribed on each pane. Things seem to be going well until people show up from his Uncle’s past that set of a series of event that may have set some evil spirits free in this special house. This movie is so much fan with some quirky performances that fit the style, feel and look of the movie. Matthew Lillard in particular as a psychic ghost hunter that shows up at the mansion looking for money that he was owed. He gives a very energetic performance and his character has cool arc that ends tragic but honorable. Tony Shalhoub as Arthur is wonderful as always and gives a very believable performance, I love him in everything he does. The same can be said for his evil Uncle Cyrus played wonderfully by F. Murray Abraham. He, much like Lillard is so much fun in this movie, then again villains usually are. The rest of the cast are all great as well from Shannon Elizabeth to Alec Roberts that play his children to the always entertaining Rah Digga [Flipmode the Imperial].Of course what we are all really here for as horror fans are the 13 Ghost inside the house. Each one of these monstrous spirits look amazing and the costumes and effects are excellent here. Each ghost as a unique look and killing style along with their own backstories, they are very cool characters indeed. The writers did a great job updating this story and taking that original idea and adding to it., they have gone on separately to write things like “Hellrasier” and “Puppet Master” films and things like “The Call”, “Exit Wounds” and the TV show “The Blacklist”. Also it was a good call getting Steve Beck to direct this since he came from a visual effects background on big films like “Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade”, “The Abyss” and “The Hunt for Red October”. He went on to direct the next film for Dark Castle, an original film called “Ghost Ship”, a film that has one of the best openings ever. The Scream Factory Collector’s Edition is packed full of extras which makes this not only a five star release but a must own in my opinion. The “behind the scenes” features are excellent both new and carried over especially about how the glass house was done. All of the interviews are great and informative especially the wonderful audio commentary. The commentaries are always my favorites especially with the director which in this case was Steve Beck who did an excellent job discussing this film. Over all I would highly recommend this Blu-Ray to any horror fans out there that like these kind of flicks.
