Will There Be a Mummy 2 with Tom Cruise?
Fans of Tom Cruise’s The Mummy (2017) have long speculated about a sequel, but the chances of The Mummy 2 starring Cruise are slim. The 2017 film was meant to kickstart Universal’s Dark Universe, a shared cinematic world featuring classic monsters like Dracula and Frankenstein.
However, due to its poor critical reception and underwhelming box office performance, the franchise plans were scrapped, making a direct sequel unlikely.
Instead, a new Mummy movie is in development, set for release on April 17, 2026. This upcoming film will be a standalone horror reimagining, leaning more into the franchise’s horror roots rather than the action-adventure style of Cruise’s version.
Directed by Lee Cronin and produced by James Wan and Jason Blum, the film promises a fresh take on the legendary monster.
While Tom Cruise’s The Mummy has found renewed interest on streaming platforms, there are no official plans for him to reprise his role. Fans eager for more Mummy action will have to wait for the 2026 reboot, which aims to deliver a terrifying new vision of the iconic creature.
Would you have liked to see Cruise return for a sequel, or are you excited for the new horror-focused reboot? Let’s discuss!
