Jurassic Park, This Ain’t
Terrible. Just terrible. I really like Adam Driver, he’s done some excellent work (and not just in Star Wars), but he was wasted on the terrible writing/directing of this “film.” And Ariana Greenblatt was an unexpected good surprise. Talented young actress. But the movie… Oh boy. First, the script is just so cheesy. I mean, Ok, they’re on Earth 65 million years ago. And not only is the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs on its way while these space travelers happen to be stranded there. But the asteroid is going to land, just seconds before they take off and escape. Which is good, since the asteroid is going to land literally on top of them. Not somewhere else on Earth, or even a couple hundred miles away. But on top of their freaking heads right before they get their space ship working again and escape danger. Wow. Just… Wow.And as soon as it starts building real tension, or you think some awesome action sequences are about to happen, the scene ends. Almost like they don’t want to waste their little budget on too many special effects. Anticlimactic. A total tease. For a movie that should be primarily special effects, it’s just so disappointing. For example, Adam Driver outrunning a T-Rex in a straight foot race. WTF? Really? Ridiculous? Or a character will get lost or in some otherwise sticky situation and you wonder how it’s going to resolve, when suddenly, they’re free and clear and strolling through the forest again and you’re left dumbfounded as to how they got there. And then there’s the fact that the movie depicts dinosaurs more like alien monsters than dinosaurs. I was so disgusted when, towards the end of the movie, the “T-Rex” gets down on all four legs and faces off against Adam Driver like a giant Komodo Dragon. T-Rex’s have little arms! They don’t hunt prey on all fours! Their arms aren’t as muscular as their hind legs! It’s almost like the writers don’t know dinosaurs at all. This movie had so much potential. And squandered it all.1 Star for the interesting concept (though wasted). Another star for Adam and Ariana.Total F to the Writer/Director duo Scott Beck/Brian Woods. I made sure to memorize their names so that I could never watch any of their films again.Don’t waste your time or money on this one. Wait til it’s free on Netflix or something if you absolutely have to see it.

I’m still not sure how I really feel about this movie but very glad I purchased it.
Compared to some of the more recently highly publicized dogs of a movie I’ve recently been suckered into purchasing, this movie was rewarding to watch. It wasn’t exactly what I thought it would be like based upon the previews of this movie. In fact, I resisted purchasing it for quite a while despite being a science fiction movie fan. I bought it on a whim when it went on sale thinking it would be okay if I didn’t like it all that much.I found I was intrigued part way through the movie and kind of surprised by the ending. So, it was a good movie and worth the price of admission. Not a great movie, but still one I’m happily looking forward to watching again.

A Very Good Movie
An incredible “what if” movie. The simple question of what happened right before the end of the age of dinosaurs. Especially considering the fact that we have no idea of just how many different species were walking the earth at the time and just how insignificant you would feel being at the bottom of the food chain. It really is just two actors on the screen trying to survive to get to their escape ship…while the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs is fast approaching the planet. Good performances from both actors, a good movie night movie.

Cool Sci Fi / Dinosaur / action- adventure film
Imaginative story which begins long ago in interstellar space. A space ship on a research mission gets knocked off course by an asteroid and crash lands on prehistoric earth. The pilot and one passenger are the lone survivors of the crash. The survivors then make a dangerous cross country journey in search of a life boat which can take them to safety. There are many things I like about this movie. First and foremost, it is a tale of how two very different people help each other survive a dangerous journey. Since it takes place 65 million years ago there are plenty of dinosaurs. However, the dinosaurs don’t overwhelm the movie. At about the quarter mark of the movie we see the first dinosaurs, alligator sized predators who are literally out for blood. As the movie progresses, the “big boys”, the true thunder lizards, then show up and try to take out the survivors who are armed with a single energy gun, some futuristic mini grenades, and lots of ingenuity. The digital effects including the dinosaurs and space scenes are amazing. The interaction between the two survivors is very well done. Tension builds up as the movie unfolds since an impending event limits the time the survivors have in which to find their life boat and escape with their lives. As such, the last thirty minutes of the film has you sitting on the edge of your seat. The blu ray transfer is very well done. If you like dinosaurs, space ships and survival stories I believe you’ll like this movie.

High expectations disappointed
Ever since I had seen the trailer, I really wanted to see and like this movie. It looked amazing, and somehow, I thought it would be some kind of time machine story gone wrong, where humans from the future would be lost in Dinosaur times. And with Adam Driver as the main star, I thought it was just going to be awesome.Unfortunately, to say that it never delivers is a massive understatement. From the totally unexplained story of a human civilization coming from another planet, to the never ending inconsistencies, to the baffling predictability of the entire storyline all the way down to its smallest sequences, this movie is, from the first minute to the last, trying hard to be something that it can never reach, piling up one cliche after another, in a succession of unsurprising sequences peppered with “pick-a-boo” effects that eventually never fix anything. And I feel so sorry for Adam Driver and that cute little girl (who pulls her part actually very well) for getting lost on this shipwreck. The only reason I give it 3 stars is for the actors, the beautiful visuals and production values.

Good Action and Special Effects
I thought this was a pretty good movie—nothing overly complex or complicated. Adam Driver is always interesting to watch and generally picks above average projects. If you’re looking for a solid action, survival, sci-fi thriller with excellent performances by the two leads, Driver and Ariana Greenblaat (15 but passing as a 9 year-old) you will enjoy this film. The basic plot involves a spaceship crashing on an uncharted celestial body, which turns out to be Earth 65 million years ago. The nice twist is that the main characters aren’t actually human, but are from a distant planet in the solar system. In addition Driver is a father with a terminally ill child at home, a factor that affects his ability to bond with Koa, the young girl accompanying him when the space craft crashes. The film doesn’t waste time getting into the action and moving the plot forward. The CGI dinosaurs and special effects are good. Yes, at times there are some questionable moments, such as Koa appearing out of nowhere to rescue Driver from a dino by stabbing it in the eye. (How was she able to keep up with the chase and why go for the left eye—did she know the right eye was injured?) If you can avoid dwelling on such questionables and instead focus on Driver’s excellent performance, you’ll find there isn’t a dull moment in the film. Mills (Driver) and Koa (Ariana) must make their way across an unknown terrain riddled with dangerous prehistoric creatures and showers of asteroids in search of their last hope for escape.

Lots of suspense!
I enjoyed it enough to watch it twice! I see some people have really bashed this movie, but I must disagree. Sure, the CGI dinosaurs weren’t up to Jurassic Park standards, but I was okay with that. At least they were uniquely different and therefore interesting, instead of same-old, same-old. Plus, the story wasn’t really about the dinosaurs, it was about a man grieving for his dead daughter, trying to save a little girl who lost both her parents.Someone complained that they didn’t have a language translator…that person either didn’t watch the movie or wasn’t paying attention, because the fact that the translator was broken was addressed early in the film. And the lack of a translator wasn’t an issue anyway, since they managed to understand each other just fine without it.Overall, I enjoyed the premise that the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs was also what caused the spaceship to crash on Earth. I don’t need to know where these humans came from to be able to enjoy the film. It’s sci-fi; imagination and a willingness to suspend reality is required. Watching the relationship between the pilot and the girl develop from strangers to friends to sincerely caring enough to risk their lives to save each other, gave the story depth. Without it, it would have been just another monster movie. In the end, one can easily imagine that the pilot and his wife will adopt the girl as their own.And no, I didn’t feel like the tar pit and the quicksand and the geysers were cliche’, as one reviewer stated. I thought they showed the writer took the time to do a little research into what the world was like 65 million years ago and then incorporate it into the story to break up what would have otherwise been a monotonous journey of walking and avoiding dinosaurs. It added interest and provided opportunities for the characters to develop their relationship and express their humanity in a dangerous environment that isn’t “out to get them,” but will kill them if they don’t work together and help each other.Overall, this movie isn’t likely to win any awards, but it’s an enjoyable film that I will add to my movie shelf for those times I want to watch something fun that doesn’t require me to think too hard. Two thumbs up!
