A fun little horror fest! (but too short for most)

OK, minus the fast pace & very weak story line; this is a good movie. The Gore, high-octane violence and shock points will scratch the itch for horror fans and the kid/monster does fit nicely for comic book universe fans. Just don’t expect a huge story, characters or plot. It’s more of a “what would happen if …..” type of movie. It’s only goal is to show you the other side of a well known premise. I think it did a good job of doing that. Imagine the young Clark Kent story minus the cushy, love-fest of goodness and add the huge ego of a super-being with no remorse or mercy on the weak little, inferior humans. I think it’s why they didn’t bother building upon the characters. If they did concentrate more on character development the movie would very quickly become boring because; who doesn’t know the Superman story/characters already? (They even used the same female actor that played “Mom” in one Superman movie)I think the creators did well to show what could be if a Superman type being (as a kid) was really an egotistical bully, hellbent on one day “taking the world” for his own. That being said, in a lot of ways this could build into a part two with a nemesis character hero, or with a little more imagination- something even better.Personally, I hope they do a Brightburn 2 – continuing the Superman parallels.

What if Superman was meant to be evil, but as a kid.

Great Movie on if Superman were to be evil. But as a kid learning his extraterrestrial powers. And true potential on why he was sent to earth. Great combo DVD+ Blu-ray+ Digital Download.

    Evil superman

Like other reviews, basically this was superman gone evil than good. Not as good as the superman movies.

    Almost Everyone He Touches Dies

This is an alternate version of what Kal-el/Clark Kent/Superboy could have been like. If you look at it from that point of view, it’s quite the experience. It’s actually scary in some scenes when he uses his super speed to destroy people and things. And just because you have been nice to him, don’t think for a minute that you are safe!

    The good and the bad

Ok. IF you do not apply SUPERMAN to your view of this movie, then it is FAR easier to enjoy it for what it is. Granted, plagiarizing the most famous Superhero in existence is nothing new, but you HAVE to make adjustments to allow for a NEW continuityA. Mom and Dad ARE the Kents, per their lifestyle, etc. The parallel, to me, would mean that either the writer did not factor in that a HARSH upbringing would cultivate a more REALIZBLE, and relatable scenario to produce an evil Super…OR he implies that the ship controls the kid. He had emotions BEFORE his “emergence” and none after, sdie from saddness prior to what happen3ed in the final barn scene…and that could have been overacting and not a script issue as it means he liked no one but his mom :)B. YOU CANNOT go tit for tat. By doing that, like they did with the parents, you create a narrative view that ALREADY exists. When you cross over that border, ANYTHING will be nit picked. An example, how does he go from Average, nerdy kid, to godly, evil, super, in the space of 4 days ? Again, either the spaceship computer,Ai, whatever, controls him, OR…..good writing did not exist, and only plagiarism with quirky ideas added. The path should have taken a time frame that seemed more filled with grief and frustration. As it was written, and acted, it plays it as if they kid is evil and realizes it…..the spaceship makes him thus, or he “just decided”It just lacked a LOT of body to be a “what if he had gone down the other road” type of storyNoW !If you can step back and rewatch it as a horror movie, without imposing Superman as the mental narrative, except evil, then the movie is not too bad. I know, it is hard to not think of pink elephants, but it can be done. The 1st tiem I watched it, in theaters, I had some MONSTEROUS expectations. Then I realized how lacking the content was and the PREVIEW literally gave the entire movie away, I was bummed. Told people it was “Meh”. The second time I watched the movie. I did not make it a Superman parallel, nor a superhero movie. The second time I watched the movie I made it an Alien Horror story involving a kid who decides that humans are best when dead, as it is put forth, and not a reverse storyA lot of people stick with a view and do not care to step outside of their view. I try to see it a few times to shake off the 1st viewing opinion. It helps me understand a movie or TV show better. I mean, my wife was teasing me yesterday as I have Watched Umbrella Acadamy season 1 3 times now and The Boys twice. if you get a negative feeling about a movie, or it causes you to question the expense, see it again when it comes out on video. Cheaper and you can try to view it in a different manner. If your view is 100% in the OTHER direction, then you;ve tried to hard and need to see it a 3rd time :)The movie is a SOLID 3, or a 5.5 on IMDB to me. The 1st tiem I saw it, it would have been a 2 here and a 3 there 🙂
