DARK FUN FOR HALLOWEEN SEASON star roundup

Freaky Friday meets Hot Chick meets horror spoof. On Friday the 13th a killer caring a magic skull.Switches bodies under the full moon..with his intended prey. 17 yr old teen girl. Millie is now in the body of the Butcher. With less then 24 hrs. To get her body back. meanwhile the Butcher adjusted well..Once he gets passed a few physical hurtles.just ask the annoying shop teacher. The horror spoof cover a wide range of movies..From American Werewolf in London (Millles last name)On up.The body count is a far second tothe dark dead pan humor that often riddles this(3.5 star) movie. I seen it a few yrs ago on prime..and came across the dvd at less then $7.00 decided it was worth another go and i was not disappointed.

(4K Release) You are paying solely for the Scream Factory name

First off, I LOVE this movie. So much so, that I blind-bought the 4K release (upgrading my blu-ray), in hopes to see (and hear) it in the best quality possible. I broke my first rule of buying a 4K disc; Research before you buy. I’ve got a number of clunkers, and Freaky could feasibly be viewed as another one.Uh, the movie is fueled by the performances of its two leads, and a unique take on the body-swapping premise. I loved the fact that they took a traditionally kid-friendly premise, and made a very adult horror movie. I don’t even LIKE Vince Vaughn, yet he makes an absolutely hilarious awkward teenage girl. The predicaments he gets himself into as “Millie” are super-awkward, and LOL hilarious. His counterpart Millie (Kathryn Newton) is Aces as a shy, bullied, and, yes, awkward 17-year old… turned sexy, cold, psychotic killer. These are two juicy roles. They don’t pull any punches, some kills I’ve never seen (the kills in this are gory and awesome), language is appropriate. Rated R, though produced by Blumhouse, who often leans toward PG-13 horror. So kudos to them, for letting it all fly. Ok, that’s my extra star. This release, however…Scream Factory is formerly my ultimate-favorite boutique label. I have at least 125 of their releases. Last 2-3 years, I’ve seen a very noticeable decline in the quality of what they deem worthy of the logo, especially their Grade-A red carpet movies. Also, I’ve NEVER seen a good Shout! Studios release. The IFC Midnight stuff is hit-or-miss.Which brings us to Freaky, originally released on Blu-ray in 2021 by Universal. Not only does the movie not lend itself well to the 4K format, but Scream Factory put as little effort into this release as possible. Let’s see… No Dolby Vision, no HDR10+, no Dolby Atmos (they carry over the same DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track the Blu-ray had), no hint of a remastered picture or a new scan (though the movie’s 3 years old, what’re ya gonna do?), no slipcover, no digital copy, and what? No new extras? Straight from a company known for their supreme extras. The quality of these releases are on a downslide, and they still choose to charge a PREMIUM. After tax, this cost me close to $30, for a 4K picture, and literally nothing else. I feel gypped by a company I’ve spent a small fortune on.The movie itself does no favors to the visual quality (of course SF dropped the ball in a couple of areas to even offer improvements). I’m not even 100% sold on this format (you can argue with me elsewhere), but darks are generally not 4K’s best friend. I have a number of 4K discs whose dark scenes reveal an excessive amount of film grain (…heavy, flashing film grain, bookended by nice clear scenes… I dunno, people seem to love it!). Fortunately, Freaky doesn’t suffer from this, but at least 3/4 of this movie is either shot in the dark, or inside with sparse lighting. There’s not much benefit to be had in these instances. Overall, close-ups are nice, but wide shots (of which there are many) are cluttered in composition, and generally focus is solely on the foreground. I don’t know if they used a special filter filming this movie, but even the few bright outdoor shots are cluttered and drab in color. Which is unusual. Personally, I find 4K’s slight uptick in fine resolution is often negligible, though noticeable sometimes. Where 4K really shines is color vibrancy. Not much luck with Freaky. There is a chase through a haunted house that has some great day-glo colors that really pop, but you’ll find little else. Again, I feel like the visual issues fall on the cinematographer’s shoulders. Unless they meant it to look this way. I don’t know. All of these issues can be ignored if you’re into the clever story, and stellar performances. Yet, I did pay extra for a nice-looking picture (and, in a futile fashion, a little something else).

My favorite movie of all time.

I love ❤ this film . It was the first time I got to see Kathryn Newton and she looks amazing. I love how she can switch roles in many of her films. Vince Vaugn added both terror and comedy to the film . He is a good versatile actor too .

I Noticed It Listed Via The Redbox At My Current Employment

I confess that I decided to take a chance on doing something different with watching a film different from what I normally watch some time after discovering that this film was featured on the current film selection lineup via the redbox at my current place of employment (at the current time of this review writing). This indirectly influenced my decision to roll the die and purchase Freaky via Amazon which features Kathryn Newton (Millie Kessler), Celeste O Connor (one of Millie’s best friends Nyla Chones) Misha Osherovich (Josh Detmer one of Millie’s other best friends), Vince Vaughn (the butcher), Katie Finneran (Coral Kessler Millies mother), Alan Ruck (Mr. Bernardi one of Millie’s teachers), Uriah Shelton (Booker Strode who Millie has a crush on), Dana Drori (Char Kessler Millie’s older sister) etc. The beginning parts of the film open with part of the why and how the Blissfield Butcher acquired their deadly/dangerous reputation and how they came across the mystical weapon called the La Dola. Parts of the Freaky film show the connection that Millie Kessler has with her mom Coral Kessler and her older sister Char Kessler, including some of the reasons why Millie is super close to her best friends Nyla Chones and Josh Detmer. The plot also features why Mr. Bernardi is significant in Millie Kessler’s life. The film was better than I expected it to be my only caveat is that yes it was obvious why the teacher character plays a significant part in Millie’s life however aside from how he acts towards Millie about a certain timeframe he expected of her for a certain project the way Mr. Bernardi acted to warrant a significant focus in Millie’s life could have elicited more sympathy in other ways. For instance Mr. Bernardi is being portrayed the opposite of fair for the deadline however this could have been elevated by having shown him giving a free pass andor being more lenient towards andor another chance to a similar classmate that was in a similar predicament of Millie (for instance both Millie and another classmate having the same timeframe to complete the project though Mr. Bernardi giving a free pass to the other classmate even if secretly). Aside from that caveat, this Freaky horror comedy film was more well put together than I initially expected it to be.

    Fairly decent slasher comedy

Aside from the whole pronoun and word policing nonsense, it’s not that bad of a movie. Mildly entertaining. Not everybodies cup of tea for certain

    F for Freaky and Funny

I can imagine the pitch meeting where somebody said “Freaky Friday…the Thirteenth?” It sounds like a joke, and it might have started as a joke. It’s still a fun, freaky movie full of homages to both the other franchises while finding new ground to tread by having the slasher and the final girl exchange bodies. And just like in the Freaky Friday franchise, the treat is seeing both the young and old actor switching up their roles. Vince Vaughan is hilarious as the high school girl trapped in the body of a psycho killer. Kathryn Newton metamorphoses into a psycho killer so brilliantly, half the fun of this movie is watching her grunt and scowl through a high school day. Look, this movie isn’t the next great horror movie, but I think everybody knows that going into it. It’s a great popcorn flick in the vein of Happy Death Day. It is funny, it is a little thrilling, and in the end, you hope they make another one, but you’re probably not going to be checking online every couple weeks to see if a sequel has been confirmed. (It hasn’t.) Filed under what else? F for Freaky and Funny. Praise be to the Necrolord.

    Great movie!

It was a great movie to rent! While It does have funny parts I wouldn’t recommend for those who hate scary movies or bloody scenes. Overall, I would buy again!

Kind of like a horror version of Freaky Friday!

Kind of like a horror version of Freaky Friday, except with a girl switching with a serial killer instead of her mom, lol! Hard to believe this was made by Michael Landon’s son Christopher Landon! The is the first time in a while I truly enjoyed a horror/slasher film, well to be honest I’ve never really liked slasher horror films too much anyway. But this is just humorous enough to make it enjoyable, but still be scary in some places, mostly worrying about who was going to get killed.
