Spoiler The Rock Doesn’t take off his shirt 😉
I had scheduled a family movie night which immediately resulted in a disagreement between the two other attendees. One wanted a zombie/horror/slasher film and the other wanted a 1970s Clint Eastwood Comedy (one of my favorite films) and I was left to reconcile the two; knowing full well it was a lose-lose for me. Someone would be sulking and I’d end up not enjoying whatever we were watching. Solution? I told them both I was making an executive decision and they could lump it. They both were sulking. On comes the Rock. They both stopped sulking. As to the story line, the concepts involved, they both argued afterwards as to every element. They tore it apart, they found its good points and agreed it suffered for the lack of a scene with the Rock’s shirt off but made up for it by giving him instead a wet shirt scene, which worked for them as a second choice. So Family Movie night was saved by giving the family the Rock as eye candy. A moral high ground moment? No, not really. A moment where I wasn’t feeling the urge to puncture my own eardrums to avoid hearing the sniping? A 4 star moment.

A fun movie, had to watch it twice.
This is a fun movie to watch. I had to watch it a second time. It’s amazing how you miss some things, so watching it again was great. Don’t miss the after movie credits, the art is amazing. Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Jesse Plemons and Edgar Ramírez are amazing. This swashbuckling comedy is a hit for all ages.

Falls short of being Disney’s next big thing.
Every few years Disney tries to recreate the absolute phenomenon that was Pirates of the Caribbean. Unfortunately, just like The Lone Ranger, I don’t think Jungle Cruise has what it takes to measure up to the giant; albeit in different ways. This movie leans too closely toward comedy for being an action/adventure film, which detracts from the emotional depth necessary for a high-stakes adventure. The conquistador villains stand out as being quite memorable, reminiscent of the various undead pirate factions throughout the aforementioned Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Dwayne Johnson and especially Emily Blunt are great leads as well.

Loved Jungle Cruise. Emily Blunt and The Rock have incredible on-screen chemistry. Definitely worth the price and watching over and over again with the family.
