Alicia Silverstone
Alicia Silverstone (born October 4, 1976, in San Francisco, California) is an Emmy- and Golden Globe–nominated American actress who rose to fame as teen icon Cher Horowitz in Clueless (1995), a modern retelling of Jane Austen’s Emma that grossed $88 million and cemented her place in pop culture . She made her film debut with the thriller The Crush (1993), winning two MTV Movie Awards and launching her career. Following her meteoric rise, Silverstone starred in Batman & Robin (as Batgirl), appeared in Aerosmith’s popular music videos, and earned a Golden Globe nod for Miss Match (2003) . In the 2010s she pivoted toward stage and independent projects—including Time Stands Still—while achieving success as a vegan wellness advocate: authoring The Kind Diet and The Kind Mama, launching The Kind Life website, and co-founding organic vitamin line MyKind Organics. In recent years her career has enjoyed a resurgence. She returned to screen in Book Club (2018), Netflix’s The Baby‑Sitters Club, Masters of the Universe: Revelation, A24’s Reptile, and 2024 titles such as Y2K and Krazy House. Currently, she stars as Sophie in the erotic thriller Pretty Thing (2025). Off-screen, Silverstone is a prominent animal rights and environmental advocate: a committed vegan since 1998, she partners with PETA, emphasizes sustainable living (e.g., buying secondhand), and has been honored with awards like the Heart of Green and Voice of Compassion. She married Christopher Jarecki in 2005, gave birth to her son Bear in 2011, and divorced in 2018; they co-parent actively. Just ahead of its 30th anniversary, Clueless is being reimagined for TV, with Silverstone reprising Cher as executive producer and star.
