Amanda Brugel is a Canadian actress born on March 24, 1978, in Pointe-Claire, Quebec, who graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Theatre Program at York University in 2000. She began her career in 1999 with a role in the drama film Vendetta and appeared in other early films such as the horror slasher Jason X (2001) and the acclaimed drama Room (2015). Brugel is widely known for her recurring television roles, including Rita Blue in the Hulu dystopian series The Handmaid's Tale (2017–present), which has garnered her multiple Screen Actors Guild Award nominations, and Pastor Nina Gomez in the CBC comedy series Kim's Convenience (2016–2021), a role that earned her a Canadian Screen Award. Her other notable TV roles include Marci Coates in Orphan Black and Michelle Krasnoff in the comedy Seed, in addition to her work as a judge on the second season of the reality competition series Canada's Drag Race, for which she also won a Canadian Screen Award. In 2013, she founded the non-profit organization Brugs Army, which focuses on improving the lives of women and children, and she has two children from a previous marriage.
