Anders W. Berthelsen (born September 28, 1969, in Rødovre, Denmark) is one of Denmark's most sought-after and critically acclaimed actors, known for his versatility in theatre, television, and film, including several international and Dogme 95 productions. He graduated from the National School of Performing Arts in 1994 and quickly achieved popular recognition with his breakthrough role as the slightly rough and egotistical taxi driver René Boye-Larsen in the major Danish TV series Taxa (1997–1999). He cemented his status as a leading man with prominent roles in two of the highly influential Dogme 95 films: Mifune's Last Song (1999) and the popular romantic comedy Italian for Beginners (2000), both of which earned him nominations for Denmark's top film awards (Bodil and Robert Awards). He was also a main character, Palle From, in the award-winning historical period drama series Better Times (Krøniken) (2004–2006). Throughout his career, Berthelsen has been a staple in Danish cinema, starring in films like the political thriller King's Game (2005), the psychological thriller Just Another Love Story (2007), and the popular comedy trilogy The Reunion (2011–2016). He has also taken on directing and screenwriting roles, notably co-directing the critically praised drama Held for Ransom (Ser du månen, Daniel) (2019). More recently, he starred as the lead in the biopic Bamse (2022) and was a main cast member in the series DNA (2019-2023) and a key character, Robert Zeuthen, in the third season of The Killing (Forbrydelsen III) (2012). His upcoming projects include the 2025 Netflix romantic comedy film, Mango.
