André Øvredal
André Øvredal is a Norwegian film director and screenwriter, born on May 6, 1973, in Norway. He is known primarily for his successful work in the horror and genre film sphere, and he studied at the Brooks Institute. He began his feature film career with Future Murder in 1997, where he was credited as director, writer, producer, and editor. Øvredal gained widespread international attention with his Norwegian horror mockumentary Trollhunter in 2010, which he both wrote and directed, and which was one of the first commercial genre films from Scandinavia to gain a strong North American following. His English-language debut came with the critically acclaimed supernatural horror film The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016), starring Emile Hirsch and Brian Cox. He later directed the hit horror anthology Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019), which was adapted and produced by Guillermo del Toro, and the film Mortal (2020), which was an action-horror co-production he also wrote. His most recent directorial effort is The Last Voyage of the Demeter (2023), an adaptation of a chapter from Bram Stoker's Dracula. In addition to directing, he has also served as an executive producer on films like Umma (2022).
