Aparna Nancherla
Aparna Nancherla is an American stand-up comedian, actress, and writer, known for her distinctive dry, existential, and whimsical sense of humor, often incorporating topics like anxiety and mental health. Born in Washington, D.C., and of Indian Telugu Hindu heritage, her parents immigrated to the United States from Hyderabad, India, in the 1970s. She attended Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology and graduated from Amherst College in 2005 with a degree in psychology. Nancherla began her stand-up career in Washington, D.C., before moving to New York City and later Los Angeles. Her work in television includes writing for Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell and serving as a staff writer for Late Night with Seth Meyers in 2015. As an actress, she had recurring roles in the live-action series Corporate and Crashing, and in animated shows, she is widely recognized for voicing Hollyhock in BoJack Horseman and Moon Tobin in The Great North. Nancherla released her debut comedy album, Just Putting It Out There, in 2016 and is the author of the 2023 book of personal essays, Unreliable Narrator: Me, Myself, and Imposter Syndrome. She has also appeared on various late-night shows, including Conan and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and is the co-host of the podcast Blue Woman Group, which focuses on depression.
