Brian Bovell
Brian Bovell is a veteran English actor with a prolific career spanning over four decades in theatre, television, and film. Born in London in 1959, he began his career in the early 1980s, gaining recognition in the UK Black Theatre scene. His early work includes the cult film Babylon (1980) and a critically acclaimed performance in the 1981 play Where There Is Darkness, for which he won the 1982 London Critics' Circle Theatre Award for Best Supporting Actor.Bovell is perhaps best known for his long-running roles in British soap operas and dramas, including DC Rob Thatcher in The Bill, Leo Valentine in Hollyoaks (2006–2010), and more recently as Solomon in the series Miss Scarlet & the Duke. He has also had a role as Bishop John Thornber in Coronation Street and appeared in shows like Unforgotten, Casualty, and Doctors.His film credits include work with renowned directors like Mike Leigh in Secrets & Lies (1996) and a supporting role in the popular romantic comedy Love Actually (2003). In recent years, he has continued his diverse career with roles in films like The Witches (2020) and the upcoming The Man in My Basement (2025). Additionally, Bovell has lent his voice to children's programming as Uncle Hairy on Humf and even appeared as a semi-finalist on Celebrity MasterChef in 2017.
