Directed by Tim Story, the 2021 Tom & Jerry film is a live-action and animated hybrid that brings the iconic cat-and-mouse duo into a modern New York City setting. The plot centers on Jerry Mouse, who takes up residence in the luxurious Royal Gate Hotel just as it prepares for the "wedding of the century" between socialites Preeta and Ben. To prevent a public relations disaster, a young, resourceful hotel employee named Kayla Forester—who bluffed her way into the job—hires Tom Cat to remove the intruder. Their legendary slapstick battles soon spiral out of control, threatening to destroy the wedding, Kayla's career, and the hotel itself. When the hotel’s deputy manager, Terence Mendoza, attempts to sabotage everyone, Tom and Jerry must finally set aside their rivalry to work together and save the wedding in an outdoor ceremony at Central Park. The film features a prominent live-action cast led by Chloë Grace Moretz as Kayla, Michael Peña as the antagonistic Terence, and Colin Jost and Pallavi Sharda as the high-profile wedding couple. Other notable performances include Rob Delaney as the hotel manager Mr. DuBros and Ken Jeong as Chef Jackie. While the titular characters do not speak, their vocal effects were created using archival recordings of legendary voice actors William Hanna, Mel Blanc, and June Foray, with additional vocal work by Kaiji Tang and André Sogliuzzo. The supporting cast of animated animals includes Bobby Cannavale as Spike the Bulldog, Nicky Jam as Butch, and Lil Rel Howery as the voices of Tom's shoulder angel and devil.
