Dara Taylor
Dara Taylor is an American composer for film and television scores. Born in Poughkeepsie, New York, she spent most of her childhood in Lockport, New York. She pursued her education at Cornell University, where she studied as a mezzo-soprano under Judith Kellock and independently studied composition with Zachary Wadsworth and Steven Stucky, graduating cum laude with a Bachelor's in Music and Psychology in 2009. She furthered her studies at New York University, receiving a Masters of Music in Film Music Composition in 2011, under the guidance of Mark Suozzo.Taylor has established a diverse career, contributing additional music, arrangements, and score production to various studio productions such as Bad Moms, Baywatch, Smurfs: The Lost Village, and Sausage Party, as well as television series like ABC's Agent Carter and Galavant. She has composed music for a range of independent films, including thrillers, dramas, and comedies. Her notable works as a primary composer include Colewell (2019), Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar (2021), The Tender Bar (2021), The Invitation (2022), The Noel Diary (2022), Strays (2023), Black Barbie: A Documentary (2023), and STRAW (2025). She has been nominated for a Hollywood Music in Media Award for her score for the film Undetectable (2015) and participated in Women in Film's Women Composers in Media concert in 2016. Taylor is an active member of various industry organizations, including the Recording Academy's LA Chapter, the Television Academy, the Society of Composers and Lyricists, the Composers Diversity Collective, the Alliance of Women Film Composers, and Women in Media. She currently resides in Los Angeles.
