Chris O'Dowd

Chris O'Dowd is an acclaimed Irish actor, comedian, and writer born on October 9, 1979, in Boyle, County Roscommon. The youngest of five siblings, he grew up in a household with a sign designer father and a counsellor mother, later attending University College Dublin to study politics and sociology before leaving to train at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. He first rose to prominence as Roy Trenneman in the Channel 4 sitcom The IT Crowd (2006–2013) and achieved international stardom with his role as Officer Nathan Rhodes in the 2011 hit comedy Bridesmaids, which earned him a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination. His diverse career spans major film roles in The Sapphires, Thor: The Dark World, and the 2022 Netflix film Slumberland, as well as lead television roles in Get Shorty, The Big Door Prize, and the 2025 series Small Town, Big Story, which he also created. A highly decorated performer, O'Dowd won a Primetime Emmy Award for his role in State of the Union (2019) and received a Tony Award nomination for his 2014 Broadway debut in Of Mice and Men. He is also known for creating and starring in the semi-autobiographical series Moone Boy, which won an International Emmy for Best Comedy and was inspired by his own childhood in Ireland. In addition to his screen and stage work, he has authored a series of books based on Moone Boy and has provided voice work for animated projects like Epic and Mary Poppins Returns. He has been married to writer and presenter Dawn O'Porter since 2012, and the couple has two sons, Art and Valentine.
