Slumberland 2022

In the 2022 fantasy adventure Slumberland, directed by Francis Lawrence, 11-year-old Nemo (Marlow Barkley) sees her life upended when her father, Peter (Kyle Chandler), is lost at sea during a storm. Forced to leave their lighthouse home to live with her socially awkward and dull uncle Philip (Chris O'Dowd) in the city, Nemo discovers a secret map to the magical dreamworld of Slumberland. There, she encounters Flip (Jason Momoa), an eccentric and boisterous outlaw who was once Peter’s partner in dream-traveling. Together, they embark on a journey through the subconscious—dodging the Bureau of Subconscious Activities and fleeing a terrifying smoke-monster "Kraken"—to find magical pearls that can grant Nemo’s wish to see her father again. Along the way, Nemo realizes that Flip is actually the suppressed, adventurous side of her uncle Philip, who lost his "spark" after a childhood falling out with Peter. Ultimately, Nemo uses a pearl to help Flip wake up and reintegrate with Philip, allowing both of them to heal from their grief and embrace life in the real world. The film features a central duo of Jason Momoa as the satyr-like Flip and Marlow Barkley in her breakout role as Nemo. They are supported by Chris O'Dowd playing the dual role of Uncle Philip and his younger self, Kyle Chandler as Peter, and Weruche Opia as Agent Green, a high-ranking official in the dream police. Other notable cast members include India de Beaufort as the school counselor Ms. Arya and Humberly González as the salsa-dancing Graciela. Because Slumberland was produced by Netflix, it did not have a traditional wide theatrical release. It had a limited run in select theaters starting November 11, 2022, to qualify for awards and generate buzz, meaning its official box office figures are negligible and not publicly reported in detail by the streamer. However, the film carried a massive production budget—estimated at $150 million—making it one of Netflix's most expensive family films to date.It was released worldwide on Netflix on November 18, 2022, where it remains available for streaming globally.
