Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery 2022
During the COVID-19 pandemic, billionaire Miles Bron invites his close circle of friends, self-styled "Disruptors," to his private Greek island for a murder mystery weekend. The group includes Governor Claire Debella, scientist Lionel Toussaint, former model Birdie Jay, men’s rights streamer Duke Cody, and Bron's estranged ex-business partner, Andi Brand. To everyone’s surprise, the world-famous detective Benoit Blanc also arrives, having received an invitation that Miles claims he never sent. Tension mounts as it is revealed that Miles cut Andi out of their company, Alpha, years prior, with the rest of the group perjurying themselves to support Miles in exchange for funding and career stability. Miles also unveils his new hydrogen-based fuel, "Klear," which he plans to launch immediately despite Lionel and Claire’s warnings about its volatility. When the murder mystery game begins, Blanc solves it immediately to prevent actual tension, but real tragedy strikes when Duke dies after drinking from Miles' glass, leading the group to believe Miles was the target. In the chaos, "Andi" is shot by an unseen assailant. A flashback reveals that the real Andi actually committed suicide a week prior; the woman on the island is her twin sister, Helen. Helen hired Blanc to investigate Andi’s death, suspecting foul play by one of the Disruptors. Blanc staged Helen’s "shooting" to buy time for her to search Miles' office for a cocktail napkin that proves Andi was the true intellectual architect of Alpha. The climax reveals that Miles Bron himself is the killer. He murdered the real Andi to stop her from exposing his theft of the company and killed Duke on the island because Duke saw Miles leaving Andi’s house on the day of her murder. When Helen finds the napkin, Miles burns it, destroying the only evidence. Realizing the legal system cannot touch him, Helen resorts to "disruption" of her own. She uses a shard of the "Glass Onion" structure to ignite the unstable Klear fuel, causing a massive explosion that destroys the mansion and the Mona Lisa, which Miles had on loan from the Louvre. Realizing Miles is now ruined and his dangerous fuel exposed, the surviving friends finally turn on him, agreeing to testify to his crimes.🎭 Main Cast Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc (The Detective) Edward Norton as Miles Bron (The Tech Billionaire) Janelle Monáe as Helen Brand / Cassandra "Andi" Brand (The Ex-Partner) Kathryn Hahn as Claire Debella (The Governor) Leslie Odom Jr. as Lionel Toussaint (The Scientist) Kate Hudson as Birdie Jay (The Fashion Designer) Dave Bautista as Duke Cody (The Streamer) Jessica Henwick as Peg (Birdie's Assistant) Madelyn Cline as Whiskey (Duke's Girlfriend) Noah Segan as Derol (The Random Guy) Notable Cameos: Hugh Grant (as Blanc's partner), Angela Lansbury, Stephen Sondheim, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Serena Williams, and Ethan Hawke.💰 Worldwide Box Office Unlike a traditional theatrical run, Netflix opted for a "sneak preview" release strategy. The film played in approximately 600–700 theaters in the United States and select international markets for only one week in November 2022. It grossed an estimated $15 million USD domestically during this limited window. Because Netflix does not report official box office numbers in the same manner as traditional studios, and the film was pulled from theaters after one week to prioritize the streaming launch, the "worldwide" gross is effectively capped at this limited theatrical figure. Analysts noted that had it received a wide release, it likely would have grossed significantly more, comparable to the first film's success.📺 Streaming Availability Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is a Netflix Original film.
