Daniel Craig is an English actor best known for his portrayal of James Bond in five films from 2006 to 2021. Born on March 2, 1968, in Chester, Cheshire, England, he trained at the National Youth Theatre and graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1991. Craig began his career on stage and gained early recognition for his role in the drama serial Our Friends in the North (1996). He later appeared in films such as Elizabeth (1998), Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001), Road to Perdition (2002), Layer Cake (2004), and Munich (2005). His casting as James Bond in Casino Royale (2006) was initially met with skepticism due to his departure from the traditional Bond image. However, his performance was widely acclaimed, leading to his reprisal of the role in Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015), and No Time to Die (2021). No Time to Die marked his final appearance as the iconic spy. In a statement shared with CNN, Craig expressed respect and admiration for longtime producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, wishing them well in their future endeavors. Beyond Bond, Craig has showcased his versatility in various roles. He starred as detective Benoit Blanc in Knives Out (2019) and its sequel Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022), both of which earned him Golden Globe nominations. In 2024, he portrayed a gay expatriate in the period romance Queer, based on William S. Burroughs' autobiographical novel, earning further acclaim. On stage, Craig has delivered notable performances, including his Broadway debut in A Steady Rain (2009), revivals of Harold Pinter's Betrayal (2011) and William Shakespeare's Macbeth (2022), and starring as Iago in Othello (2016) . In 2025, Craig is set to reprise his role as Benoit Blanc in Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, the third installment in the Knives Out series, scheduled for release on Netflix in the second half of the year . Craig has been married to actress Rachel Weisz since 2011, and they have two children. He holds dual citizenship in the United Kingdom and the United States.
