Erik Winquist is an American-New Zealander visual effects supervisor born on January 2, 1975, in Evanston, Illinois, USA. His career in visual effects began in 1998, and he is best known for his extensive work at Wētā FX (formerly Weta Digital), particularly on film franchises featuring large computer-generated animal effects. He first joined Weta as a compositor for The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and later took on supervisory roles for films like I, Robot and Peter Jackson's King Kong (2005), where he supervised the jungle sequences. Winquist's credits as a Visual Effects Supervisor also include Avatar and a significant contribution to the Planet of the Apes prequel films, specifically Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, War for the Planet of the Apes, and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. For Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Visual Effects. His other notable work includes the action-thriller Spectral and Rampage.
