Claes Bang

Claes Bang is a Danish actor and musician, born on April 28, 1967, in Odense, Denmark. He graduated from the Danish National School of Theatre in 1996 and initially built his career in Danish theater. From 2001 to 2004, he was a permanent member of the cast at Aalborg Teater. In 2002, he began performing a monologue based on Jan Guillou's novel Evil, which he has since performed over 300 times, including an English-language version at St. James Theatre in London in 2015 . Bang's breakthrough in film came with his role as Christian in Ruben Östlund's 2017 film The Square, which won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. For this performance, he became the first Dane to win the European Film Award for Best Actor . He gained further international recognition for his portrayal of Count Dracula in the 2020 BBC series Dracula and as Fjölnir in Robert Eggers's 2022 film The Northman . In addition to his acting career, Bang has pursued music under the moniker This Is Not America, releasing music in the genres of electronica and synth-pop . Bang is married to stylist Lis Louis-Jensen since 2010 and resides in Frederiksberg, Copenhagen. He is stepfather to her two children and step-grandfather to her grandson .
