Donald Warren "D.W." Moffett is an American actor, director, and producer with a career spanning stage, film, and television. Born in Highland Park, Illinois on October 26, 1954, he spent a portion of his youth in Germany, where he attended a private secondary school and became fluent in German. He later attended Stanford University, where he majored in international relations. After graduating, Moffett initially pursued a career as an investment banker in Chicago but, feeling unfulfilled, he decided to take an acting class on a whim. This led him to a new career path, and he became a founding member of the Remains Theatre Company in Chicago.Moffett gained critical acclaim for his stage work, particularly for his role opposite Brad Davis in the original Off-Broadway production of Larry Kramer's landmark AIDS drama, The Normal Heart in 1985. He also appeared on Broadway in productions like The Real Thing and The Boys of Winter. On screen, Moffett has appeared in a wide array of roles. His film credits include supporting parts in notable films such as Stealing Beauty (1996), Steven Soderbergh's Traffic (2000), which earned him a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast, and Thirteen (2003).On television, Moffett is perhaps best known for his recurring role as Joe McCoy on the acclaimed NBC series Friday Night Lights from 2008 to 2011, and for his main role as John Kennish on the ABC Family series Switched at Birth, which aired from 2011 to 2017. He has also been a series regular on shows like For Your Love and Chicago Sons and has made guest appearances on countless others, including CSI: Miami, Criminal Minds, and How to Get Away with Murder. In addition to his acting, Moffett has also directed episodes of Switched at Birth and For Your Love.
