Dakota Mayi Johnson, born on October 4, 1989, in Austin, Texas, is an American actress from a prominent Hollywood family. Her parents are actors Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, and her maternal grandmother is actress Tippi Hedren. Johnson made her film debut at age ten in "Crazy in Alabama" (1999), a film that also starred her mother and was directed by her then-stepfather, Antonio Banderas. After graduating from high school, she pursued acting seriously, taking classes and signing with the William Morris Agency. She gained early roles in films such as David Fincher's "The Social Network" (2010) and "21 Jump Street" (2012). Her breakthrough came with the leading role of Anastasia "Ana" Steele in the "Fifty Shades" film series, starting with "Fifty Shades of Grey" in 2015, which brought her widespread recognition. Since then, Johnson has showcased her versatility in a diverse range of films, including the crime drama "Black Mass" (2015), the horror film "Suspiria" (2018), the thriller "Bad Times at the El Royale" (2018), "The Peanut Butter Falcon" (2019), "The Lost Daughter" (2021), and "Madame Web" (2024).
