Splitsville 2025
Splitsville is a 2025 American comedy film directed by Michael Angelo Covino, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Kyle Marvin. The film, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and was distributed by Neon, is a spiritual successor to their 2019 collaboration, The Climb. It stars Dakota Johnson, Adria Arjona, Kyle Marvin, and Michael Angelo Covino as two couples whose relationships are thrown into chaos. The story begins when Carey (Marvin) is blindsided by his wife Ashley's (Arjona) request for a divorce. He seeks solace from his friends, Julie (Johnson) and Paul (Covino), only to discover that their seemingly perfect marriage is kept afloat by an open relationship. However, when Carey and Julie have an ill-advised tryst, it tests the supposed "rules" of the open marriage and forces all four characters to confront their insecurities and the true nature of their relationships. The film is described as an "unromantic comedy" that blends screwball farce with a modern exploration of infidelity and the complexities of human connection. Critics have praised the film's witty writing, inventive filmmaking—including a number of expertly choreographed long takes—and the compelling performances from its cast, particularly Dakota Johnson.
