Michael Angelo Covino
Michael Angelo Covino is an American filmmaker, actor, producer, and writer, born in 1984 in Mount Kisco, New York. He graduated from Occidental College and began his career in the film industry in the mid-2000s. Covino gained significant recognition with his directorial debut, The Climb (2019), a feature-length adaptation of his 2018 short film of the same name. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section, where it won the Coup de Coeur of the Jury Award. It was later acquired by Sony Pictures Classics and showcased at several major film festivals, including Sundance, Toronto, and Telluride. In 2025, Covino directed and starred in Splitsville, a comedy about a man who discovers his friends' open marriage after his own divorce. The film, co-written with his longtime collaborator Kyle Marvin, features Dakota Johnson and Adria Arjona and premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. As an actor, Covino has appeared in films such as News of the World (2020), starring Tom Hanks, and Riff Raff (2024). He has also produced and acted in several indie films, including Hunter Gatherer (2016), which won a Special Jury Prize at the SXSW Film Festival, and Kicks (2016). Covino is known for his collaborations with writer-director Kyle Marvin. Together, they run the production company Watch This Ready and have worked on various projects, including commercials and music videos.
