Damson Idris
Damson Idris is a British actor and producer acclaimed for his compelling performances in television and film. Born on September 2, 1991, in Peckham, South East London, to Nigerian parents, he is the youngest of six children. Raised by his single mother, Idris was initially passionate about becoming a professional football player. However, a knee injury redirected his focus towards acting. He studied Theatre, Film & Television Studies at Brunel University, where he earned a BA Honours degree. Idris's breakout role came with the FX series Snowfall (2017–2023), where he portrayed Franklin Saint, a young drug dealer in 1980s Los Angeles. His performance earned him critical acclaim and several accolades, including the BET Award for Best Actor in 2022. In 2025, Idris stars in the high-octane Formula 1 drama F1, directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Lewis Hamilton. He plays rookie driver Joshua Pearce, who becomes both a protégé and rival to veteran driver Sonny Hayes, portrayed by Brad Pitt. The film, set to release on June 27, 2025, was filmed during actual Grand Prix weekends, featuring cameos from all 20 current F1 drivers. Idris's upcoming projects include starring as jazz legend Miles Davis in Miles & Juliette, a period romance directed by Bill Pohlad and produced by Mick Jagger. The film explores Davis's 1949 trip to Paris and his meeting with French singer-actress Juliette Gréco. Beyond acting, Idris has made significant cultural contributions, including his appearance at the 2025 Met Gala, where he showcased a dramatic F1 movie-inspired Tommy Hilfiger transformation, blending cinematic flair with high fashion.
