F1 The Movie 2025
Directed by Joseph Kosinski, F1 follows the journey of Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), a legendary Formula One driver from the 1990s whose career was derailed by a horrific crash. Thirty years later, Sonny is lured out of retirement by his old friend Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem) to join the struggling APXGP team. His mission is to mentor a gifted but disciplined-challenged rookie, Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris). Throughout the season, the team faces internal sabotage from board member Peter Banning and intense on-track rivalries. The story culminates at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where Sonny sacrifices his lead to help Joshua, ultimately leading to a strategic tire advantage that allows Sonny to secure his first career win and save the team’s future before retiring once more to race in Baja. The film features a high-profile ensemble cast led by Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes and Damson Idris as Joshua "Noah" Pearce. Supporting roles include Javier Bardem as team owner Ruben Cervantes, Kerry Condon as technical director Kate McKenna, and Tobias Menzies as the antagonistic Peter Banning. The production is notable for its authenticity, featuring appearances by real-world F1 figures like Lewis Hamilton (who also served as a producer), Max Verstappen, and Lando Norris. Other cast members include Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia, Shea Whigham, and Simone Ashley, with many scenes filmed during actual 2023 and 2024 Grand Prix weekends to capture the sport's true atmosphere. Since its theatrical release in June 2025, the film has become a massive commercial success, grossing over $631 million at the worldwide box office. It set a record as the highest-grossing auto racing film in history and represents a career peak for Brad Pitt in terms of live-action earnings. The movie had a strong opening weekend of roughly $57 million domestically and maintained impressive longevity in theaters, fueled by positive critical reception and its immersive IMAX presentation. With a production budget estimated between $200 million and $300 million, the film’s global performance has solidified it as one of the major hits of the 2025 summer blockbuster season. For viewers worldwide, F1 is available for streaming exclusively on Apple TV+, having premiered on the platform on December 12, 2025. Prior to its subscription-based streaming debut, the film was made available for digital purchase and rental on platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Fandango at Home, and the Apple TV store in late August 2025. The global streaming rollout on Apple TV+ allows fans in all serviced regions to watch the film in 4K HDR, often accompanied by "F1: The Album," which has also seen significant success on music streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.

If you're a hardcore F1 fan, the movie might feel a bit underwhelming. But if you're someone with a casual interest in cars and racing, you'll probably enjoy it. And if you know nothing about the sport at all, you're in for the best experience with stunning cinematography, a twist-filled story, and one of the best soundtracks produced for a film. The movie delivers some solid twists, with Brad Pitt stepping into the role of a leader and father figure for a struggling team. Watching it in IMAX is easily the best way to experience it's visually stunning and fully immersive. On the entertainment scale, it scores top marks. The characters are well-balanced, from seasoned veterans with firm convictions to hungry rookies fueled by adrenaline and eager to prove themselves. Their motives differ, but all are compelling in their own right.
